The Lakeland University women's volleyball team is more than a month into its season and will finally play its second home match and its first at home in nearly three weeks when it hosts highly rated Concordia University Wisconsin Tuesday night.

The Muskies have played just two of their first 12 matches at home against a punishing schedule but begin a friendly stretch this week that includes four straight matches at home over the next five days. Lakeland also is home Friday night against Northern Athletics Collegiate Conferece power Aurora University and then hosts a triangular Saturday with Rockford University and Carroll University.

Series history: Lakeland and Concordia are long-time rivals in many sports, and volleyball is no exception. The two teams have been meeting regularly since the 1970s. The Falcons have been dominant in the series in recent years, winning nine straight including most recently two wins in the NACC's spring season earlier this year. The Muskies' last win over the Falcons came in 2013 when they scored a hat trick that year, sweeping three matches including a five-set match in the NACC Tournament quarterfinals. Before the Falcons' recent run, Lakeland had won 25 of the previous 30 meetings against Concordia, including a streak of 16 straight from 1998-2004.

Lakeland last time out: Lost at Dominican 3-0 Saturday
The back half of the Muskies' trip to River Forest, Ill., was a bumpy one as the Stars prevailed 25-23, 25-18, 25-13. Dominican hit .316 for the match with 40 kills and just nine errors, far better than Lakeland's .072 attack rate (29 kills, 20 errors). Susana Stevens finished with seven kills, Brelynn Scoles added six kills plus a team-high 10 digs, Emily Duchow totaled 10 assists and eight digs and Roseily Carrasquillo added nine assists plus two aces. The Muskies couldn't complete a sweep of their two-day trip after defeating Concordia Chicago in three sets Friday night as Stevens notched a season-high 15 kills.

Concordia last time out: Won at Concordia Chicago 3-0 Saturday
The Falcons did complete a sweep of their weekend trip to Illinois, topping the Cougars Saturday 25-13, 25-18, 25-19 after winning at Rockford on Friday. Jenna Chaussee did much of the damage for CUW, finishing with 11 kills plus 11 digs and six service aces. Sophia Collins also added seven kills as Concordia moved to 3-1 in the NACC.

About the Falcons: Concordia started the season with three straight wins, including a pair of nationally ranked teams to move into the AVCA/NCAA Division III Top 25 Coaches Poll. The Falcons then lost three in a row, including two to ranked teams, but have since won eight straight, seven of them via sweeps, and are lurking outside the top 25 again. CUW has been one of the NACC's powers in recent years with four regular season titles, including a NACC North title this spring plus sharing regular season honors with Aurora and Lakeland in 2019.

Rough road: The Muskies are off to a 2-10 start, but it's safe to say that record is not  entirely indicative of the team's quality. According to the Massey Ratings, a website that ranks all teams in a number of sports including Division III volleyball, Lakeland has played the sixth-toughest schedule of 431 teams playing the sport in D-III, and that number could climb even higher after tonight. The Muskies have faced four teams in the current top 20, and Concordia Wisconsin enters tonight 23rd in the rating.
