Lakeland/CUW Results
MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin won all four contested matches and a shorthanded Lakeland University men's wrestling team fell in a dual between College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin schools Friday night at CUW's R. John Buuck Fieldhouse.
The Falcons finished with a 51-0 win, including five victories by forfeit and three more by fall. Lakeland fell to Concordia in a dual for the second time this season, this time in a match scheduled just this week after the teams' previously scheduled CCIW duals at Elmhurst (Ill.) College were canceled.
Garret Hunt (
Sr.-Corvallis, Mont.) was involved in the Muskies' best match and the best match of the dual. His battle against Cameron Mercer at 285 pounds went to extra time before Mercer pulled out a 9-7 victory, as Mercer rallied from down 6-3 in the third period.
Also competing for Lakeland was
David Aragon (
So.-West Allis, Wis.), who opened the match at 165 lbs. falling to Jack O'Donnell in 2:41.
Matt Crowley (
Fr.-Omro, Wis.) also was defeated by Merrick O'Donnell at 184 lbs., and CUW's Lucas Regnier topped
Chris Jarka (
So.-Poplar Grove, Ill.) at 149 lbs.
Aragon also competed in an exhibition match against Aiden Ciha, which went the distance before Ciha held on for a 15-14 decision.
Colby Meissner (
Fr.-Cleveland, Wis.) also was defeated by Concordia's Keith Gigger at 149 in an exhibition.
"It's no fun to lose, but progress isn't linear, and the scoreboard doesn't tell the whole story," said Lakeland first-year head coach
Ben Rosen. "Our team will continue to adjust and improve as we have all year."
Lakeland next is scheduled to compete in the CCIW Championships, hosted by Augustana (Ill.) College next Saturday, Feb. 13 in Rock Island, Ill.
