Lakeland tops Marian for second straight NACC men’s tennis dual win

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – Jacob Larson (Jr.-Wauwatosa, Wis.) was a part of two wins and Sterling Reilly (Fr.-Medford, Wis.) won in singles for the first time as a collegian as the Lakeland University men's tennis team defeated Marian University 8-1 Saturday at Buttermilk Creek Park.

The Muskies won their second straight dual and improved to 2-2 overall and 2-1 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play. Lakeland won consecutive duals in conference for the first time in 11 years, since winning four straight matches in the NACC in April 2010.

Larson was a convincing winner at Number 2 singles, defeating Marian's Nathan Hunter 6-2, 6-0. He also teamed up with Nick Larson (Fr.-Sheboygan, Wis.) to defeat Hunter and Kyle Leisses at No. 1 doubles 8-4.

Reilly picked up his first singles win, defeating Kenji Callahan at No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-1. Evan Vorpahl (Fr.-Sheboygan, Wis.) gave the Muskies a third win in singles, defeating Kha Nguyen at the No. 3 flight after Nguyen retired with Vorpahl ahead 6-4, 5-5.

Lakeland also added a win at No. 2 doubles as Aaron Smith (Jr.-Lake Geneva, Wis.) and Eric Bredlow (So.-Whitewater, Wis.) edged Callahan and Nguyen 9-7. The Muskies also added three wins by default, including two at singles and one at doubles.

Marian's lone win came at No. 1 singles, as Leisses defeated Nick Larson 6-3, 7-6.

The Muskies will aim for their third straight dual win tomorrow when they travel to face Dominican University in Forest Park, Ill.
