Series history:Â 40th meeting, Edgewood leads 35-4
The Eagles hold a big edge in the series and have defeated the Muskies 18 straight times, a streak that dates back to 2004. Edgewood won last year's meeting 3-0 in Madison as three different players scored goals, including Cassidy Kloos the icebreaker just over seven minutes into the game. The season before was the closest match between the teams in nearly 15 years when the Eagles scraped out a 1-0 lead as Siobhan Gallagher scored the game's lone goal on a free kick from 25 yards out in the 79th minute. Lakeland last defeated Edgewood Oct. 23, 2004, scoring a 2-1 win that capped a run of four straight wins over the Eagles that also are the Muskies' only wins in the series.
Lakeland last time out: Won at Rockford 3-2 Saturday
The Muskies earned their first Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win of the season by outlasting the Regents.
Alondra Reyes answered Rockford's tying goal in the 66th minute with a goal of her own less than five minutes later, deflecting in a free kick by
Hanna Brouch for what proved to be the winner. Brouch and
Faith Turley also added goals, including Turley scoring her first goal of the season.
Haley Rich made four saves in goal for the Muskies. Lakeland snapped an eight-game losing streak over the previous month, winning for the first time since defeating Maranatha Baptist Sept. 6.
Edgewood last time out: Won at Benedictine 3-2 Saturday
The battle of the Eagles went to Edgewood, which won in a game where all five goals were scored in the first half. Benedictine scored the first goal before Edgewood struck for three straight goals in a span of 4:25, including two by Lauren Clark bookending the go-ahead goal by Rylee Brotz. Edgewood would score again in the 38th minute, but this time by knocking in an own goal to draw Benedictine within 3-2. Edgewood would hold on to win its sixth straight match and run its unbeaten streak to 11 matches. The Eagles have been a massive turnaround story this season, sitting atop the NACC after finishing 4-13-1 overall and 3-9 in conference a year ago.
