Series: 15th meeting, Lakeland leads 13-1
Lakeland and Rockford meet for the 15th straight season in a series that has been dominated by the Muskies save for one meeting at Taylor Field four years ago. Lakeland has won the last three meetings, including a 56-28 victory in last year's season finale in Rockford when Larry Rivers rushed for 233 yards and Brice Kensey caught 12 passes for 202 yards and four touchdowns. The last three meetings have been at Rockford; the teams haven't met at Lakeland since the Regents' lone win in the series Oct. 13, 2018, a 37-20 victory on the road at Taylor Field. Lakeland is 6-1 at home and 7-0 on the road in a series that started in 2008, the first season of football in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.

Lakeland last time out: Lost at Aurora 68-0 last week
The Muskies had a day to forget against the NACC leaders, who scored 28 points in the second quarter on the way to a 41-0 halftime lead and kept adding on in the second half. Lakeland gained just 168 yards of offense, more than 300 yards below its season average coming into the contest, while the Spartans gained 611 yards and also took advantage of three Muskies turnovers. Lane Sobieski passed for 49 yards and added 28 yards rushing and Devon Harris added 41 yards rushing. Leondre Townsend finished with six tackles including two tackles for loss on defense.

Rockford last time out: Lost to St. Norbert 52-14 Oct. 29
The Regents were idle last week but in their most recent action lost to the Green Knights in their final home appearance of the season. St. Norbert ran up 45 points in the first half, taking a 45-14 halftime lead and sending Rockford to its eighth straight loss. The Green Knights ran 41 times and gained 285 yards, averaging 7.0 yards per rush. Jaelen Ray passed for 340 yards but the Regents' running game was nullified with a net of minus-1 yard in 21 rush attempts.

About the Regents: Rockford opened the season with a non-conference win over Beloit but has not won since. The Regents have one of the most prolific passing offenses in all of NCAA Division III, with quarterback Jaelen Ray ranking fifth in the country throwing for 2,767 yards. The defense has struggling, though, allowing 45.3 points per game, tied for 224th of 240 teams in Division III, and Rockford also is minus-11 in turnover margin for the season, also tied for 223rd nationally. Head coach Calvin Toliver is in his first year leading the program after three years as an assistant coach, the previous two years as offensive coordinator.

Senior time: Saturday is the final home game and final game collegiately for 10 Lakeland seniors. Honored before the game will be Andrew Cardiel, Agustin Diaz, Elmonzeo Evans, Gerardo Ibarra, Joseph Pegues, Charlie Ruege, Lane Sobieski, Gabriel Vela, Jayson Wilder and Quinton Wilson. Cardiel is a fifth-year senior who took advantage of playing an extra year due to eligibility changes during the coronavirus pandemic, while the other nine are all four-year members of the team.

Top NACC performers: With all the injuries Lakeland has had in its backfield this season, the Muskies still will finish the season with three of the top rushers in the NACC this year. Entering the final game, quarterback Robby Michael is third in the conference in rushing yards (895), Devon Harris is fifth (650) and Jatron Bevly is sixth (556). Wide receiver Devin Martin also enters the finale ranking fourth in the NACC in receptions with 45.

The Muskies defense also has been one of the best in the conference in breaking up passes all season, and Lakeland enters its final game with the top two in the conference in pass breakups with both Andrew Cardiel and Jayson Wilder with nine breakups each. Wilder also is tied with Ben Slatcoff of Aurora for the most passes defensed (breakups plus interceptions) with 12, and Karlis Ozols ranks fifth in the NACC in tackles for loss with 9.5.
