MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Lakeland University sophomore
Peyton Domangue (
Thibodaux, La.) received his first-ever Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference weekly honor when he was named the conference's baseball Pitcher of the Week Tuesday morning.
Domangue received the honor after throwing his first collegiate shutout on Saturday in the second half of a doubleheader against St. Norbert College. Domangue scattered ten hits over nine innings with four strikeouts and a walk and got the best of a pitcher's duel, keeping the Green Knights off the board in a 2-0 Muskies win.
It was the second straight strong outing for Domangue, who also pitched a complete-game three-hitter in a win over Concordia University Chicago a week earlier. For the season the right hander is 3-2 with a 2.50 earned run average, striking out 26 in 36 innings of work. He is tied for the team lead in wins and paces the team in innings pitched and strikeouts as Lakeland is 14-9 overall and 4-5 in conference play.
Though it is his first NACC weekly honor, it is not Domangue's first honor from the conference. He also was named second team all-NACC as a place kicker on the Muskies' football team this past fall, when he set a school record with 53 successful point-after-touchdown kicks.
Lakeland is in action again Tuesday when it travels to face Dominican University for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. at Wintrust Field in Schaumburg, Ill. The games were moved back a day after being originally scheduled to be played at Lakeland before being postponed Monday, and the Muskies will serve as the home team in both contests.
