Sullivan receives first NACC defensive player of the week honor

Lakeland University women's volleyball libero Maeve Sullivan (Jr.-Chicago, Ill.) has been named the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference's Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference Tuesday.

Sullivan received a weekly NACC honor for the first time in her career after more strong play at the libero spot for the Muskies. She averaged 4.80 digs per set and 18 digs per match over four matches as Lakeland went 1-3 against a tough schedule last week that included matches against three Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schools.

Sullivan finished with 17 digs against both UW-Oshkosh and UW-Whitewater, and also added a career-high 25 digs Saturday in a four-set win over Lake Forest (Ill.) College. She also added 13 digs plus two service aces in a four-set loss to UW-Stevens Point.

Sullivan leads the Muskies (4-4 overall) with 138 digs and 16 service aces through eight matches. She also ranks third in the NACC with 4.48 digs/set.

Lakeland is on the road Wednesday for its NACC opener when it travels to face Wisconsin Lutheran College at 7 p.m. in Milwaukee.
