Series: 4th meeting, St. Norbert leads 2-1
Despite the schools being separated by just over 50 miles, the Muskies and Green Knights have met just three times before, and last year's first-ever meeting as Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference foes was the first in nearly 60 years. Lakeland dominated last year's matchup with a 40-8 win at home Sept. 25, 2021, forcing eight turnovers in SNC's first game as a NACC member, including six turnovers in the first half on the way to a 33-0 halftime lead. St. Norbert won the two previous meetings in back-to-back years in 1961 and 1962, including a 25-0 win at Lakeland Oct. 7, 1961 in the first meeting and then a 42-0 shutout Sept. 22, 1962 in De Pere. There have been two other meetings between the schools involving the Muskies' varsity. Lakeland, then known as Mission House College, hosted the St. Norbert freshman team in consecutive years in 1938 and 1939 and picked up two close wins by scores of 14-13 in 1938 and then 19-12 a year later.

Lakeland last time out: Lost at Wisconsin Lutheran 25-21 last week
The Muskies for the second straight game held the lead most of the way only to see an opponent rally late. The Warriors scored the game's final 12 points and took the lead with just under nine minutes left on a 74-yard touchdown pass on the way to beating Lakeland for the first time since 2017. Jatron Bevly had his second straight big game rushing for 141 yards and three touchdowns, and fellow freshman Robby Michael also rushed for 131 yards in his first collegiate start at quarterback. The offense went scoreless in the second half, though, coming up empty on all six offensive possessions, and WLC scored on six of its ten possessions, including four field goals.

St. Norbert last time out: Defeated Wisconsin-Stevens Point 21-14 Sept. 10
The Green Knights were idle a week ago but in their most recent game picked up a big non-conference win, upending the Pointers at home in De Pere. St. Norbert held UWSP to 224 yards of offense and never trailed after taking a 7-0 lead late in the second quarter. The Green Knights held the ball for nearly 36 minutes and converted 10 of 17 third down tries while also being almost perfectly balanced with 190 yards rushing and 191 yards passing. Richie Gilles completed 18 of 28 passes for 191 yards and a touchdown and Delton Zuleger (88 yards) and John Trinh (79) combined for 167 yards rushing.

About the Green Knights: St. Norbert is in its second season in the NACC after spending the previous 37 years in the Midwest Conference, where the Green Knights were the league standard winning 17 conference championships. St. Norbert's first year in the NACC was a challenging one, with a 5-5 record (4-4 NACC) ending streaks of winning at least six games every year since 1999 as well as a string of 21 consecutive winning seasons.

The Green Knights have been involved in a pair of low-scoring games so far this season, having lost to former Midwest Conference rival Ripon 13-10 in their season opener as the Red Hawks kicked a 36-yard field goal with 1:28 left for the winning points. The Sept. 10 win over UW-Stevens Point was the first time a NACC team has beaten a member of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in the league's 15 years of football.

Bevly is No. 2: Even with his barely having carried the ball in the Muskies' season opener, Jatron Bevly is the No. 2-ranked rusher in Division III after three weeks of play with 498 yards rushing through three games. Only Daniel Papantonis of Rochester (N.Y.) with 651 yards has more than Bevly early in the season. Bevly also is second in the country in rushing yards per game (166.0) and is fourth nationally averaging 9.1 yards per rush attempt.

Bevly also is leading Division III in a number of categories related to his nine touchdowns scored. He is first in D-III in total touchdowns, rushing touchdowns, points scored (54) and points scored per game (18). Bevly has scored at least one touchdown in all three games, including a four-yard touchdown run in the season opener against Illinois College when he ran just four times for a total of 14 yards.

Three strange games: The Muskies are 0-3 to start the season for the first time since 2018 and are 0-3 with a conference loss in that early-season total for the first time since 2001. Lakeland has lost all three games in very unusual fashion. The opener against Illinois College came despite outgaining the Blueboys 343-192 and was heavily affected by three interceptions returned for touchdowns for IC's first three TDs in the game. The second loss to Buena Vista came when the Beavers rallied from a 34-10 deficit late in the third quarter and after Bevly set a new single-game school rushing record with 343 yards.

Last week's loss came with Wisconsin Lutheran not leading at any point until scoring on a long pass in the game's late stages in the fourth quarter. In the last two games especially, Lakeland trailed for just 23 minutes, 48 seconds of 120 minutes of play while leading for over two-thirds of the game (a combined 80:35 between the two games).
