Series history:Â 131st meeting, Concordia Wisconsin leads 69-61
The series between the Muskies and Falcons is a long and frequently very evenly matched one that dates back more than 80 years. Concordia has won the last two matchups handily, including a 90-66 victory at home in Mequon back on Jan. 10. CUW also won the last time the teams played at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium, prevailing 94-68 Jan. 12, 2022. Lakeland's last win in the series came Jan. 30, 2021, an 86-85 triumph as Trenton Nickel hit a three-pointer with one second left for the winning points. The series dates all the way back to Dec. 17, 1938, when then-Mission House College defeated Concordia College 47-32.
Lakeland last time out: Lost at Marian 82-78 Tuesday
The Muskies saw their Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament chances dashed by the defending conference champions. Lakeland fell behind by 15 points in the first half but kept battling, was within single digits almost the entire second half and got as close as two points on three occasions in the final four minutes.
Isaiah Hammond finished with 23 points and 12 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the season and
Asanjai Hunter tied his season high with 16 points. The loss ensures the Muskies can finish no better than a tie with Rockford for sixth in the final NACC standings, and the Regents own the tiebreaker based on winning the teams' lone meeting this season Feb. 4.
Concordia last time out: Defeated Dominican 90-68 Tuesday
The Falcons were cooking offensively in their home finale, shooting a season-best 61.3% in the win over the Stars. Gabe Pruss scored 19 points to lead four players scoring in double figures, Freeman Jackson scored 16 and NCAA Division III assists leader and Sheboygan native and Sheboygan Lutheran grad Jared Jurss added 14 points and 10 assists.
Like Lakeland, the Falcons also have been eliminated from contention for the NACC Tournament, a year after appearing in the conference tourney final. Concordia has lost four games in conference by six points or less, including three by two points or less.
Senior Day: The Muskies are honoring a pair of seniors before today's game.
Christian Knox and
Quinn Gardner are both taking part in their final game after varied careers with limited time on the court for Lakeland for different reasons. Knox transferred to Lakeland for his senior season after two years at Trine (Ind.), playing in 19 games over two seasons there before becoming a key contributor to the Muskies this year, including leading the team in three-pointers made. Gardner has been part of the Muskies program for four years but has been limited to 10 games played total, as he has had two ACL knee injuries.
