Michael, Garcia both tabbed for NACC weekly football honors

Lakeland University was well-represented in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference's weekly football awards as Robby Michael (So.-Sheboygan, Wis.) and Jesus Garcia (Fr.-El Paso, Texas) both received honors Tuesday as announced by the conference.

Michael was named the NACC's offensive player of the week while Garcia was tabbed as the conference's special teams player of the week. The awards came after the Muskies' 41-20 victory on the road over Rockford University Saturday.

Michael received the conference's weekly offensive honor for the second time in his career and first time this season after another big game throwing and running. The sophomore quarterback completed 19 of 29 passes for 206 yards and three touchdowns and also rushed 13 times for 143 yards and two touchdowns. In all he accounted for 349 yards of offense and five touchdowns as Lakeland improved to 2-2 this season and 1-1 in conference play.

Michael continued a huge start to the season that has seen him complete 91 of 154 passes for 1,114 yards and eight touchdowns through four games. He also has rushed 75 times for 447 yards and five touchdowns, leading the Muskies in all three categories, and he is ranking among the NCAA Division III leaders in a number of categories.

Michael ranks fourth in Division III in total offense, averaging 390.2 yards per game. He also is 11th in D-III in total rushing yards and 12th in total passing yards, as well as 14th in total points responsible for with 78 (points scored rushing or passing). He also ranks in the top 25 in Division III in rushing touchdowns (21st), rushing yards/game (111.8, 22nd) and completions/game (22.75, 23rd).

Garcia is coming off the best game of his young Lakeland career when he was perfect in place-kicking situations. He booted a pair of field goals, making attempts from 38 and 28 yards, and also made all five of his point-after-touchdown attempts.

Garcia became the first Muskie kicker to make two field goals in a game in nearly 10 years, since Ramsey Riehl made three field goals against Benedictine University Nov. 16, 2013. For the season Garcia has connected on 12 of 15 PAT kicks and two of three field goal attempts, and his 18 points scored is tied with Devon Harris (So.-Milwaukee, Wis.) for second-most on the team behind Michael's 30 points.

Lakeland is back home this Saturday when it hosts St. Norbert College for its Homecoming game, a 1 p.m. kickoff at Taylor Field.
