WHEATON, Ill. –
Jesse Burg (
Fr.-Cedar Grove, Wis.) won three matches on the day and the Lakeland University men's wrestling team defeated host Wheaton College to win its final dual of the day at the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Duals Saturday.
Burg went 3-1 in his individual matches at 141 pounds and the Muskies finished 1-3 as a team on the day, including defeating Wheaton 27-21. The Muskies also fell to Elmhurst University (43-6), Augustana (Ill.) College (44-10) and Aurora University (41-9).
Burg defeated Wheaton's Cale Coppess via a 4-2 decision, one of six Lakeland wins in the dual against the Thunder. The Muskies also received a trio of pins, including
Wyatt Raab (
So.-Spalding, Mich.) over Aidan Laird in 24 seconds at 149 lbs.,
Parker Stroud (
Fr.-Iron Mountain, Mich.) taking down Daniel Thaler in 4:14 at 157 lbs. plus
Evan Haferkorn (
Fr.-Norway, Mich.) earning the pin in the final seconds against Garret Boyd in 6:58 at 165 lbs.
Lakeland also received a close win by
Tyler Lovejoy (
Sr.-Brandon, Wis.), who edged Jacob Kraker 12-9 at 174 lbs., and the Muskies also received a narrow decision from
Diego Morales (
Fr.-Cedar Grove, Wis.), who defeated Colin Jackson 14-12 at 285 lbs.
Burg also accounted for Lakeland's lone win against Elmhurst, pinning Troy Mock in 4:05, and registered one of the Muskies' two wins against Augustana with a 14-0 major decision over Samuel Deyro. Raab also added a win against Augustana, taking down Colin Roque by fall in 2:38.
Stroud and Haferkorn accounted for victories against Aurora. Stroud pinned Jeff Sorich in 4:34, and Haferkorn added a 9-6 decision over Devin Medina.
Lakeland next will host the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh for a dual this Thursday starting at 6 p.m. at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.
