Michael again takes NACC weekly award, adds D3football.com honors

Lakeland University quarterback Robby Michael (Jr.-Sheboygan, Wis.) received a double dose of honors Tuesday morning, receiving both conference and national awards after the Muskies' successful Homecoming Saturday.

Michael was named the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference's offensive player of the week, as announced by the conference Tuesday morning. He also was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week, as part of the national website's weekly all-star list honoring the top players nationally across NCAA Division III at each position from the previous week.

Michael was named the NACC's top offensive player for the second time this season and the fourth time in his career after a superb performance in Lakeland's 42-21 victory over Benedictine University. He also was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week for his first time, taking the only quarterback spot on the team with his performance judged to be the best by a QB in Division III this week.

The junior bounced back from a tough game throwing the ball the week before against Wisconsin Lutheran College by completing 23 of 29 passes for 240 yards and three touchdowns. He posted a career-best 82.1% completion percentage, and did so on a windy day with sustained winds of 20-30 miles per hour throughout the game.

On top of that, Michael also rushed 33 times for 170 yards and a touchdown. He accounted for 410 yards of offense and four touchdowns in all, continuing to propel him among the Division III leaders in total offense this season.

Michael has completed 66 of 131 passes this season for 965 yards and 10 touchdowns with just three interceptions. He also has rushed 90 times for 471 yards and five touchdowns. It has taken him just three games after Lakeland's tough season opener against UW-Platteville to move up among the NACC and D-III leaders in passing, rushing and total offense.

Michael is leading the NACC in rushing, tops in total yards, rushing yards per game (117.8) and tied for the league lead in touchdown runs. He also is second in the conference in passing yards/game (241.3) and third in total yards passing and touchdown passes.

Michael also leads the NACC and ranks No. 4 nationally in Division III in total offense, averaging 359.0 yards per game. He also is 11th in the country in rushing yards/game, 13th in points responsible for per game (22.5 points passing and rushing), 18th in total points responsible for (90) and 21st in total rushing yards.

Michael also is beginning to move up Lakeland's all-time lists, and on Saturday he became the latest Muskie to rush for 2,000 yards in a career. He now has 2,146 yards rushing, and he moved past Charley Morrissey (2,113 yards from 1963-66) into eighth on the school's career list. Michael also on Saturday surpassed 6,000 yards of total offense in his career, and he moved past Dylan Van Straten (6,009 yards from 2010-13) into sixth on Lakeland's all-time list.

Lakeland (2-2 overall, 2-1 NACC) is on the road this week for a Friday night meeting with Eureka College at 6 p.m. in Eureka, Ill.
