Michael, Leclaire, McMahon lead 10 Lakeland football all-NACC selections

Robby Michael (Jr.-Sheboygan, Wis.), Jake Leclaire (Sr.-Stuart, Fla.) and Justin McMahon (Sr.-Kyle, Texas) were named first team all-Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference selections, highlighting the list for Lakeland University as the conference announced its postseason football awards Tuesday.

The trio of first teamers were joined by four more receiving second team honors: Caleb Besaw (Jr.-Conroe, Texas), Jeremiah Jones (Sr.-Chicago, Ill.), Asa Spindler (Sr.-Mount Vernon, Ind.) and Karlis Ozols (Sr.-Fond du Lac, Wis.). Also receiving honorable mention were Jatron Bevly (Jr.-Springfield, Ill.), Davarion Stevenson (Fr.-Chicago, Ill.) and Charles Kobe (Sr.-Milwaukee, Wis.).

Michael and Leclaire both repeated as all-conference selections, with Michael moving up from honorable mention and Leclaire ascending from the second team. Including McMahon, all three were named first team picks for the first time in their careers, honors coming after Lakeland finished 4-5 overall and 4-4 in the NACC.

Michael received NACC honors for the third straight year, after honorable mention nods his first two years. This year he was one of two quarterbacks to be named to the first team.

Michael finished the season completing 149 of 286 passes for 2,014 yards and 19 touchdowns. He also rushed 208 times for 1,006 yards and 11 touchdowns, becoming the first Muskies quarterback to rush for 1,000 yards in a season.

Michael's 111.8 rushing yards per game led the NACC through the regular season, and he also led the conference and ranked fifth nationally in NCAA Division III in total offense (335.6 yards/game). He also ranks 21st nationally in rushing yards/game and is just outside the top 50 (53rd) with his 223.8 passing yards/game.

Through three seasons, Michael has had a prolific career as a dual-threat quarterback, moving up Lakeland's all-time list in a number of categories. He ranks third in school history in career total offense (7,908 yards), fourth in rushing yards (2,681), sixth in completions (412), seventh in passing yards (5,227), eighth in touchdown passes (39) and 10th in touchdowns scored (27).

Leclaire had a huge senior season, emerging as the most disruptive defender in the NACC and one of the best in the country. The fifth-year defensive end finished with 55 tackles (36 solo, 19 assisted), with 19 tackles for loss including 7.5 sacks, as well as two passes batted down.

Leclaire led the Muskies in tackles, TFLs and sacks, and also led the NACC in total TFLs and TFLs per game. His 2.1 TFLs/game also ranks fifth nationally in Division III, and he is tied for 32nd nationally in sacks/game (0.83).

McMahon received all-conference honors for the second time in his career and the first time since his honorable mention recognition in 2022.

The senior cornerback led the Muskies and tied for the NACC lead with six interceptions, and his .67 INTs/game led the conference. He added 24 tackles (21 solo, three assisted) including two tackles for loss plus nine passes broken up, also leading the NACC in pass breakups and total passes defended (15).

McMahon also is tied for third in Division III in interceptions/game and tied for fifth in total interceptions. He also is 10th in the country in passes defended/game (1.7). He finished his career with 159 tackles (120 solo, 39 assisted), 19 pass breakups and eight career interceptions.

Besaw was named to the all-conference team for the first time. He was the leader of the Lakeland receiving corps, topping the team with 36 receptions, 524 yards and six touchdowns.

Besaw also ranked sixth in the NACC in receiving yards, tied for eighth in touchdown catches and ninth in catches. He posted a pair of 100-yard receiving games, including season highs of nine catches and 120 yards plus two touchdowns against conference champion Aurora University Oct. 26.

Jones and Spindler were veterans who keyed the offensive line for one of the most productive offenses in the NACC. The Muskies finished second in the conference in total offense (417.4 yards/game), third in scoring (31.6 points/game) and led the conference in rushing, averaging 181.4 yards per contest.

Jones was named a second team all-NACC pick for the third time in four years, after also receiving the honor in 2021 and 2022. He finished his career as a four-year starter at left guard, starting 35 games in all. Spindler received all-NACC honors for the first time in his career after starting all nine games at left tackle, and he started 22 games in all in his career.

Ozols was named an all-conference pick for the second time and moved up from honorable mention to the second team this year. The senior linebacker was a solid second to Leclaire all season as one of the defense's playmakers in the front six, finishing second on the team in tackles (47), tackles for loss (8) and sacks (5). He also added one interception.

Ozols also was among the NACC leaders in tackles for loss and sacks. He is sixth in the conference in sacks/game (0.56), eighth in total sacks and 10th in TFLs/game (0.89).

Bevly received all-conference recognition for the first time in his career. A threat running and receiving, he finished with 76 rushes for 340 yards and four touchdowns, plus 20 catches for 291 yards and four more touchdowns.

Bevly finished second on the team to Michael in rushing yards and was third for the Muskies in receiving yards. He tied for eighth in the NACC in total touchdowns and was a big-play threat with four touchdowns of at least 54 yards.

Stevenson was another stalwart on the Lakeland offensive line, stepping in and becoming a regular at right guard as a freshman. He played in all nine games and started seven, the most starts by any freshman on the team this year.

Kobe was another of the leaders on the Muskies defense as part of a strong linebacking corps that included Ozols and Matt Glogowski (Sr.-San Diego, Calif.). Kobe finished fourth on the team in tackles with 41 (26 solo, 15 assisted), posted 6.5 tackles for loss and also added a pair of interceptions. He also returned a fumble 46 yards for a touchdown against Benedictine University Oct. 5, and he received all-NACC recognition for the second time after being named a second team pick in 2022.
