OSHKOSH, Wis. – Baylee Babcock (Sr.-Mauston, Wis.) teamed up with Mary Blossom (So.-Farmington Hills, Mich.) for a doubles win and the Lakeland University women's tennis team gave the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh a good fight before falling 6-3 in a non-conference dual Saturday at UWO's Kolf Sports Center courts.

The Muskies (6-5 overall) opened their spring season and their preparations for the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament with an encouraging performance against a strong team from the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. UW-Oshkosh (10-3 overall) recently swept Lakeland's NACC rival Wisconsin Lutheran College 9-0 and had won all three of its duals against NACC opponents by 9-0 scores.

Babcock and Blossom earned a narrow 8-7 win over UWO's Courtney Carpenter and Ella Nguyen at Number 2 doubles. Kassidee Webb (So.-Castroville, Texas) edged Nguyen in three sets at No. 3 singles for a 6-3, 2-6, 10-7 tiebreaker win to improve to 8-3 in singles matches for the season.

Sydnee Conway (Fr.-Monroe, Wis.) also added a 7-5, 7-5 win over Hannah Stitt at No. 6 singles, improving to 7-1 in singles matches. Blossom also went to three sets in her No. 2 singles match, eventually falling to Alysa Pattee 4-6, 6-1, 10-5.

"I was extremely pleased with the way we competed today against a very good WIAC team," said Lakeland head coach Pete Barth. "We haven't competed in a match since October, so it was really cool to see our players' competitive spirit today."

The Muskies compete again on Thursday when they travel to take on Lawrence University for a dual at 5 p.m. in Appleton.
