Lakeland drops Monday baseball doubleheader to St. Norbert

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DE PERE, Wis. – Kellen Hodges (Sr.-Littleton, Colo.) had a four-hit day and Nathan Stephany (Fr.-Kiel, Wis.) threw 5 1/3 scoreless innings in the second game but the Lakeland University baseball team fell twice to St. Norbert College on the road Monday afternoon in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader.

The Muskies fell by an 8-5 score in the second game, an improved performance after an 18-1 loss in the first game. Lakeland dropped to 6-22 overall and 1-15 in conference while St. Norbert improved to 14-15 overall and 7-7 in the NACC.

Hodges had two hits in both games and also drove in two runs. Three of his four hits were doubles, giving him 10 doubles on the season to tie Zak Keegan (Jr.-Frankfort, Ill.) for the team lead in that category.

Stephany pitched well in relief in the second game to keep the Muskies in the game after they fell into an 8-1 hole after three innings. The freshman allowed four hits without a walk and struck out three, keeping the Green Knights off the board after coming on with two outs in the third.

Lakeland hung around in the second game, scoring three times in the fourth to get back in the game. Hodges hit an RBI double and Aiden Swann (Fr.-Aurora, Ill.) hit a two-run single to drive in Hodges and Dominic Davi (Sr.-New Lenox, Ill.) to cut St. Norbert's lead to 8-4.

The Muskies added another run in the top of the ninth when Davi singled to lead off the inning and scored on a double by Ramiro Hernandez (So.-Chicago, Ill.), who recorded his first hit of the season. Lakeland was unable to get any more runs, though, with just two hits over the fifth through eighth innings.

St. Norbert dominated the first game, scoring in five different innings including four in the first and eight more in the fifth. The Muskies scored their lone run in the third, when Chris Day (So.-Victorville, Calif.) led off with a walk and scored on a double by Hodges.

Landon Mani (Fr.-Germantown, Wis.) also finished with two hits in the first game, and Day and Tucker Gegenfurtner (Fr.-Onalaska, Wis.) both posted two hits each on the day.

Lakeland steps out of conference for its next game this coming Sunday when it faces the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh at noon in Oshkosh.
