Grimes, Garcia win for Lakeland men’s tennis at Edgewood

MADISON, Wis. – Rob Grimes (Jr.-Plymouth, Wis.) and Andy Garcia Arreguin (Sr.-Worthington, Minn.) paired up for their first win of the season for the Lakeland University men's tennis team, which fell to Edgewood College 8-1 in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference dual Sunday.

Grimes and Garcia defeated Edgewood's Alton Robinson and William Faley 8-6 at Number 3 doubles, picking up the team's first win in three duals this season. Lakeland dropped to 0-3 overall this season and in NACC play, but played its most competitive dual so far.

Alessandro Bianchi (Sr.-Venice, Italy) nearly gave the Muskies a second win in his No. 5 singles match. Bianchi and Robinson went to three sets including a third set tiebreaker before Robinson pulled out a 7-5, 3-6, 11-9 victory.

Evan Vorpahl (Sr.-Sheboygan, Wis.) and Noriyuki Hatakenaka also played a close match at No. 1 doubles before falling to Edgewood's Andrew Hoffmann and Caden Nelson 8-5. Vorpahl also was defeated by Nelson 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, while Hatakenaka dropped a 6-1, 6-3 decision to Jon Olafsson at No. 2 singles.

The Muskies are in action next when they face Concordia University Chicago on Saturday in River Forest, Ill., at 2 p.m.
