Lakeland men’s soccer adds three in assistant coaching roles for 2024 season

Lakeland University men's soccer interim head coach Kyle Quintell has announced his coaching staff for this year that includes three new assistants with the program.

Joining the Muskies this year in coaching roles will be Mike DaSilva, Jesus Mejia and Alessandro Bianchi. DaSilva and Mejia both are in their first year at Lakeland, while Bianchi joins the team as a volunteer assistant after playing for the Muskies for the previous five years, including the COVID-19 shortened 2020-21 season.

DaSilva was previously a men's and women's assistant coach at Carroll University in Waukesha from 2020-22. Before that he was an assistant at Bryant and Stratton College in Milwaukee with the men's program.

DaSilva was an assistant on the coaching staff at Port Washington High School when Quintell was the head coach at Port Washington High School. He also previously was the head boys coach at Martin Luther High School in Greendale and has been an assistant girls' soccer coach at Grafton High School.

A Milwaukee native, DaSilva also is still playing competitively, as he currently is a veteran striker in the Major Arena Soccer League playing with the St Louis Ambush. He played at and is a graduate of Cardinal Stritch University.

"Mike is a no-brainer to have on staff," said Quintell. "Mike is a very competitive guy who has played at a high level for seven seasons in the MASL. We've previously been on the same staff together and I am more than thrilled to have him on staff."

Mejia has been the assistant boys' soccer coach at Sturgeon Bay High School for the past four seasons. He previously was the director of coaching for the Door County Wave soccer club.

Mejia and Quintell have coached a high school boys age group at the Olympic Development Level with the Wisconsin Youth Soccer Association. Currently Mejia is a technical trainer for FC Wisconsin North while helping assist the U15-19 boys age groups.

"Jesus is a great coach to have a part of the program," said Quintell. "He's super passionate about the game. We've worked together on the ODP circuit in the high school boys age groups. We are looking forward to seeing the impact he makes within our program."

Bianchi joins Lakeland as an assistant coach after a strong career playing for the Muskies. He was a five-year starter for the team, appearing in 63 career matches. As a midfielder he scored six goals and added four assists, and he was named an honorable mention all-Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference selection in 2021.

Bianchi is a native of Italy who also was part of the men's tennis team for five years, playing as high as Number 2 singles. He also was a member of the men's volleyball team last year and was a resident assistant on campus before graduating with his degree in business administration.

"We are super excited to have Ale still in the program, as he transitions from being a student-athlete, to now being our volunteer assistant coach," said Quintell. "Ale truly embodies what it is to be a Muskie. His work ethic, dedication to the program, and being able to relate to our student-athletes will be tremendous help."
