Lakeland and St. Norbert have been meeting in men's soccer since 1974, the very first year of the Muskies' program. The Green Knights won that first meeting by a 6-2 score on Sept. 28, 1974. The teams met on and off before becoming conference rivals in 2021. St. Norbert has dominated the series and has won the last seven meetings, including a narrow 1-0 victory in DePere last year. The teams' last meeting at Lakeland came Sept. 14, 2022, a 2-0 SNC win. Lakeland last defeated the Green Knights 3-2 in De Pere in the 2014 season as Paul Elzinga scored the winning goal with 38 seconds remaining in the match.
Lakeland last time out: Lost at Lawrence 2-1 Saturday
The Muskies lost by a goal for the second time in five days, falling on the road in Appleton. The Vikings scored the go-ahead goal in the 58th minute with a header off a free kick, and Lakeland was unable to get the equalizer despite playing the final 27 minutes a man up after a Vikings red card.
Max Mirhashemi scored his third goal of the season and for the third time in four matches, with
Porter Gigstead assisting in the freshman-to-freshman connection.
Zach Heiman made five saves in goal. The Muskies dropped to 1-4 overall, with all four of their losses by two goals or less.
St. Norbert last time out: Lost at Carthage 3-0 Saturday
The Green Knights were defeated on the road in Kenosha to remain winless on the season. Carthage scored all three of its goals in the first half, including two goals 2:03 apart late in the half. The Firebirds finished with a 14-4 advantage in shot attempts and scored on three of their six shots on goal.Â
St. Norbert is 0-4-2 this season against a difficult schedule that has included ties against UW-Stevens Point and Dubuque (Iowa) and losses to Augsburg, St. John's and Gustavus Adolphus of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Green Knights are a proven contender in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference since their arrival in 2021, though, and finished 7-3-2 in conference last year to place fourth in the conference. St. Norbert advanced to the NACC Tournament semifinals and is 23-8-5 in regular season league games since joining the NACC.
