Series history:Â 19th meeting, Lakeland leads 8-7-3
The series between the Muskies and Cougars has been a close one, though Lakeland is undefeated in the last three matchups. The Muskies won last year's game 4-2 in River Forest, as
Jordan Davis-Troller,
Michecadet Gethand,
Michael Barragan and
Dirk Dell Adema all scored goals. The teams played to a scoreless draw in the last meeting at Taylor Field Sept. 28, 2022. Lakeland also posed a 2-1 win in the teams' 2021 match; before that, CUC had won five of the last six matchups, including a 2-1 win at Lakeland Oct. 5, 2019. The teams have been meeting since Oct. 14, 2001, when the Muskies edged the Cougars 1-0 in the teams' first meeting.
Lakeland last time out: Lost to St. Norbert 5-0 Wednesday
The Muskies had a tough night in their Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference opener as the Green Knights dominated play throughout. St. Norbert applied pressure from the start and scored its first goal just over 16 minutes into the match, and the guests added a second goal in the first half plus two more early in the second half to take control. Kevin Ramirez notched a hat trick for SNC, which outshot Lakeland 14-1.
Max Mirhashemi had the lone shot for the Muskies, a header wide of goal in the first half.
Zach Heiman and
Matt English shared duties in goal and Heiman made six saves.
Concordia last time out: Lost to Rockford 3-0 Wednesday
The Cougars also dropped their NACC opener at home earlier this week, falling to the Regents. Rockford scored the opening goal just over four minutes before halftime, and the score remained 1-0 until the 83rd minute before the Regents tacked on two goals late. CUC finished with a substantial advantage in shot attempts (20-11), though just six shots were on goal. Chase Zizak made three saves in goal for the Cougars.
Concordia is 1-4 this season, with its lone win over Kuyper (Mich.), though Wednesday was the first time the Cougars were held scoreless this year. CUC is led by second-year coach Brad Callahan, and the Cougars finished 0-16 overall last year and 0-12 in the NACC. Concordia snapped a 19-game losing streak dating back to 2022 with its win over Kuyper.
