Series history:Â 19th meeting, St. Norbert leads 16-2
The Green Knights have largely controlled the series against the Muskies, especially of late, winning the last 12 meetings dating back to 2006. St. Norbert won last year's matchup 4-0 at home in De Pere, and also won the last time the teams played at Taylor Field with a 5-2 win matchup here at Taylor Field Sept. 13, 2023.
Mikayla Belasco and
Lia Armstrong both scored goals for the Muskies in that match. Lakeland's last win over St. Norbert came 18 years ago, a 1-0 victory as Marie Reynolds scored the lone goal 45 seconds into the second half.
Lakeland last time out: Lost at Dominican 3-1 Saturday
The Muskies played well against one of the top teams in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference even in a loss on the road.
Ingrid Steinbock scored her first collegiate goal, tapping in a loose ball after a free kick by
Charmiss Tucker, and Lakeland was tied at halftime before the Stars scored twice in the second half.
Addi Reimer kept Lakeland in the match with 17 saves in goal, and the Muskies scored at least one goal for the third time in four matches after an eight-match scoreless streak earlier in the season. Steinbock became the fifth Muskie to score a goal this season, while Tucker is the eighth player on the team to record at least one assist.
St. Norbert last time out: Lost at Concordia Wisconsin 3-2 Saturday
The Green Knights dropped another close game in a season of close losses, falling to the Falcons on the road in Mequon. Concordia took the lead for good in the 34th minute and went ahead 3-1 early in the second half, but SNC scored with 28 seconds left in the match to cut the deficit to one. St. Norbert lost by a single goal for the fifth time this season, and nine of its 12 losses have come by two goals or less.
About the Green Knights: St. Norbert is fighting for a spot in the eight-team NACC Tournament, sitting ninth in the standings entering Wednesday, one point behind eighth-place Concordia Chicago. The Green Knights finished fifth in the NACC a year ago with a 5-4-3 league mark, and this year are led by first-year head coach Katie Guns, who as Katie Vanden Avond scored 130 goals in her collegiate career from 2011-15, still an NCAA Division III record.
