HOWARDS GROVE, Wis. –
Yuu Narita (
Sr.-Tokyo, Japan) won twice and the Lakeland University women's tennis team earned its first victories of the season in losing a dual to Wisconsin Lutheran College Sunday.
Narita won in singles and doubles play in just her second dual played this season and the Muskies showed improvement despite dropping to 0-4 overall and in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference. Wisconsin Lutheran improved to 2-5 overall and in NACC duals.
The Muskies won three matches in all, including a pair in singles matches and one at doubles. Wisconsin Lutheran took the one doubles point in the dual scoring for winning two of the three doubles matches.
Narita and
Serena Brunner (
Sr.-Elkhart Lake, Wis.) earned Lakeland's first win of the match, defeating Lucia Gallardo Marto and Lexi Yerges 7-5 at Number 3 doubles. The win also was Brunner's first collegiate win in her first year with the Muskies.
Narita also added a 6-2, 6-2 win over Annaliese Bruns at No. 6 singles. Lakeland added a third win at No. 1 singles, where
Olivia Heling (
Sr.-West Bend, Wis.) defeated WLC's Maddy Olson 6-1, 6-3.
The Muskies' closest result in a loss came at No. 3 singles, where
Ireland Brickner (
Jr.-South Milwaukee, Wis.) won four games in the second set before falling 6-0, 6-4 to Addie Prochazka.
Lakeland is on the road for its next match facing Marian University on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at Fond du Lac High School.
