August, Raske, Howard receive all-NACC softball postseason honors

Jordan August (Sr.-Schererville, Ind.) was named a first team all-Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference, highlighting three from Lakeland University selected for conference softball postseason honors as announced Monday by the NACC.

Maddie Raske (So.-Tinley Park, Ill.) and Lexi Howard (Fr.-Crown Point, Ind.) joined August in receiving all-conference recognition, with Raske named to the second team and Howard an honorable mention pick. The three were honored after a season when the Muskies finished 20-22 overall and tied for seventh with a 13-11 conference mark.

August capped her career with her second all-conference nod and first since being named honorable mention in 2023. The senior catcher had her best year at the plate while continuing to be one of the very top defensive catchers in the NACC.

August batted .359 with 42 hits, two doubles, one triple, 23 runs batted in and 20 runs scored, and also walked 20 times to finish with a team-best .448 on-base percentage. She posted career highs in batting average, hits, runs and OBP, and finished third on the team in average and hits and fourth in RBIs and runs scored.

August also ranked tied for fourth in the NACC in walks and sacrifice flies (4). She also threw out 10 of 29 base runners trying to steal, and her 34.5% rate throwing out runners tied for the best mark in the conference.

Raske had a strong follow-up after an outstanding 2024 when she was named first team all-NACC and the conference's freshman of the year. The sophomore center fielder batted .371 with 46 hits, 10 doubles, one triple, one home run, 31 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

Raske led Lakeland in batting average as well as sacrifice flies (5), tied for the team lead in doubles and was second in hits and RBIs. She also tied for the conference lead in sac flies as well as ranking outside the top 10 but in the top 20 in a number of other categories.

Raske got off to a cold start to the season on the team's spring trip to Florida but didn't need long to raise her batting average back to the high 300s, including a stretch of nine hits in 10 at bats over four games in early April. She also was again one of the toughest players to strikeout in the conference, with just four strikeouts on the season in 124 at bats, including just one strikeout swinging.

Howard gave the Muskies one of the top freshmen in the NACC for the second straight season, posting numbers at or near the top of all first-year players in the conference. The third baseman batted .370 with 47 hits, 10 doubles, six triples, one home run, 36 RBIs and 25 runs scored.

Howard led Lakeland in hits and RBIs, tied for the team lead in doubles and triples, and finished second in batting average and runs scored. She also is tied with teammates Peyton Harlow (Jr.-La Porte, Ind.) and Carlie Morrow (Jr.-Menasha, Wis.) plus Rockford University's Chayton Krueger for the NACC lead in triples, and also is seventh in the conference in RBIs.

Howard opened her career with a 10-game hitting streak, posting an average around .400 early in the season, again near the mid-point and then pulling it back up more than 20 points again with a strong finish. She posted 14 multi-hit games and drove in a season-high six runs against Rockford April 12, with a pair of three-run triples.
