A pair of Lakeland University student-athletes were picked for Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference weekly awards on Tuesday as
Jordan Davis-Troller (
Sr.-Cottage Grove, Wis.) and
McKynzee Schepp (
Jr.-Marshall, Wis.) both were recognized when the conference released weekly honors Tuesday.
Davis-Troller was named the NACC's men's soccer offensive player of the week, while Schepp was named the conference's football special teams player of the week. Both received NACC weekly honors for the first time in their Lakeland careers.
Davis-Troller is the first Muskies men's soccer player to receive a NACC weekly award in four years, since Michecadet Gethand was twice named the league's top offensive player in 2021. He received the honor after another big game last week that continued a scorching hot start to the season.
The versatile 6-foot-5 midfielder scored two goals and added an assist in Lakeland's comeback 4-1 win over Lawrence last week. With the Muskies trailing 1-0 early in the second half, Davis-Troller scored the tying and go-ahead goals, and then assisted on Lakeland's third goal.
Davis-Troller extended his streak to four consecutive matches scoring a goal, the first Muskie to score in four straight matches since Kevin Fitchett and Ryan Malo both accomplished the feat in 2008. For the season he has six goals and two assists for 14 points scored for a Lakeland team with a 3-2 record, and his goals and points totals both lead the NACC.
Schepp made history on Saturday, becoming the first female to score points in a football game in Lakeland school history. The junior placekicker made all of her extra point kicks in a close contest throughout before Greenville (Ill.) University scored late to edge the Muskies 29-28.
Schepp went 4-for-4 on PAT kicks, including a kick to tie the score near the end of the first half plus three more kicks made in a close game where the teams were never separated by more than seven points. She also is believed to be the first female to kick and score for an NACC team in the conference's 18-year history.
The Muskies men's soccer team is home for its next match tomorrow night when it faces Edgewood University in its conference opener at 7 p.m. at Taylor Field. The Lakeland football team is idle this week before opening NACC play next week Saturday, Sept. 27 at Rockford University.
