Pettit’s hot streak nets NACC softball pitcher of the week award

Lakeland University sophomore Lily Pettit (Rewey, Wis.) has been named the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week, as announced Tuesday by the conference.

Pettit received the honor for the second time in her Muskies career, this time after continuing a hot stretch with a big week last week. She finished 3-0 over three starts last week as Lakeland extended its winning streak to seven games to move into a tie for the top spot in the NACC standings.

Pettit pitched 17 innings last week and allowed nine hits and two runs (one earned) for a 0.41 earned run average on the week. The 5-foot-1 pitcher struck out seven and walked two while pitching two complete games and in the third allowing just two hits in three innings of a five-inning, 12-1 run-rule win over Alverno College on Saturday.

Pettit threw a four-hit shutout of Wisconsin Lutheran College last week Monday in a 1-0 Lakeland win for her second collegiate shutout. She also threw a three-hit complete game on Sunday at St. Norbert College, allowing just three hits and one unearned run in the Muskies' 8-1 win over the Green Knights.

Pettit is now 7-3 on the season with a 2.60 ERA in 15 appearances and 12 games started. She has won each of her last four starts and over her last five starts boasts a 1.12 ERA. Pettit's 1.13 WHIP (walks plus hits per innings pitched) leads the NACC, her eight walks allowed on the season are tied for the most among any starting pitcher in the conference, and her seven wins are tied for sixth-best in the league.

Lakeland is 17-10-1 overall and 9-3 in the NACC going into a doubleheader against Aurora University on Wednesday at home, with games beginning at 2 p.m.
