The Lakeland College Women's soccer team convincingly defeated Finlandia University by a score of 9-0 on senior day. Fittingly, senior Amanda Smith led the way with two goals to up her yearly total to twenty.
On the day the Muskies scored early and often behind a commendable team effort speared on by the exceptional play of its freshmen class. Freshman defender Elisa Waltz (Oakfield) opened the scoring with a blast from 15 yards for her first collegiate goal. Waltz would add a second goal later in the game off an assist from junior back Briana Plautz (Green Bay).
Sophomore midfielder Lorine Weiss added a goal and an assist while freshmen Kelly Hopfinger, Sarah Voigt, and Jennifer Porter each added solo goals. Junior forward Ann Lehecka (McHenry, Illinois) scored on a corner from Plautz for the second game in a row.
Sophomore mid-fielder Tracy Bins (Green Bay, WI) recorded an assist on the day while goalkeeper Alli Weiss (New Berlin, WI) picked up the win with one save in 80 minutes of work.
The win puts the Muskies at 7-6 overall and 2-0 in Lake Michigan Conference play. The Muskies will be in action at 3 pm this Tuesday October 12th as they take on conference rival Maranatha Baptist.
