The Lakeland Muskies traveled to Alverno on Wednesday, Oct. 19 and walked away with an 8-0 victory. Six different players scored goals for the Muskies as they clinched a first round LMC tournament home date with an offensive barrage.
"I'm proud of the girls," said head coach Marc Colwell. "They went into Alverno and did what they had to do to walk away with the two points and help us secure a first round home game in the LMC tournament."
Sophomore forward Marie Reynolds scored the first two goals of the game on her way to a hat trick performance. Just three minutes and 40 seconds into the contest she took a pass from senior Briana Plautz and shot the ball at the keeper. Adriana Alvarez, who was replaced after the first half, appeared to catch the ball before dropping it and letting the ball roll across the line for a goal. Exactly 50 seconds later Reynolds received a cross from senior Ann Lehecka and proceeded to tap the ball into the net.
One minute and three seconds later Reynolds picked up an assist as she got the ball to junior Tracy Bins, who dribbled the ball into the box and put it into the back of the net.
With the Muskies finding themselves up by three just five minutes into the game, Bins passed the ball to Reynolds and she carried the ball up the field before placing the ball into the back of the net in the 15th minute.
Nine minutes later the Muskies jumped out to a 5-0 led when senior Nicki Willes found freshman Megan Stock for the fifth goal.
In the 41st minute junior Lorine Weiss found freshman Jennifer Graff to make it a 6-0 game. One minute later Willes took the ball from around midfield and carried it all the way up the field before placing a shot into the back corner of the net for a 7-0 Muskie lead.
The Muskies totaled 20 shots in the first half, while allowing Alverno to only record one shot. In the second half the Muskies came out firing once again as they took 23 shots and held Alverno to none.
In the 58th minute Weiss found freshman Anna Carlson for the eighth and final goal for the Muskies.
The Muskies are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 22 for Senior Day when they play host to MSOE in the LMC regular season finale at 1 p.m.
