The Lakeland Muskies defeated the Wisconsin Lutheran Warriors 4-0 on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at Muskie Field. Sophomore Marie Reynolds scored a hat trick to vault the Muskies to a 2-1-1 record in the LMC.
"It was great for us to get a couple goals early and get that confidence," said head coach Marc Colwell. "You could see the confidence building after each goal. I hope we can carry this play over to the next couple games as we have a huge conference game on Saturday against Marian."
Just two minutes and 59 seconds into the game sophomore Amy Christenson passed the ball to Reynolds who was able to put it past the keeper on the left side.
In the 23rd minute Christenson and Reynolds once again teamed up on almost the exact same play, but this time Reynolds scored from three yards out and to the right side of the net.
Lakeland once again came out firing in the second half when exactly ten minutes into the half Reynolds recorded a hat trick by carrying the ball down the end-line and placing it into the net.
"It felt awesome to get three goals today," said Reynolds. "I couldn't have done it without my teammates. They had a lot of nice passes to set me up and the goals just went in."
Senior Nicki Willes would add one more to the score for the Muskies when she collected a freshman Danielle Ristow pass and dribbled through the box, beating the goaltender and kicked the ball into the open net in the 82nd minute.
The Muskies struggled early in the season, but with this four goal effort Lakeland has now scored 14 goals in their last six games.
"I think we are really starting to come together as a team," said Reynolds. "We have been working hard in practice and work on shooting. It is all starting to come together for us.
Junior goaltender Alli Weiss registered her sixth shutout of the season with her six save effort on the evening. She has matched her previous season record with the victory. Six shutouts in the season is good enough for third in the all-time Lakeland record book.
The Muskies will be in action on Saturday, Oct. 8 when they travel to take on Marian.
