The Lakeland Muskies defeated the Rockford College Regents 3-0 October 9, on a cold blistery Sunday afternoon.
"We came out today, after a huge game against Marian yesterday," said head coach Marc Colwell. "I was concerned if we'd have the intensity and the legs to go again today. We were able to do it while generating 23 shots. We got into the attack really well today and we were solid defensively as well."
Just six minutes into the game sophomore Marie Reynolds gets the ball around midfield and passes the ball to freshman Maggie Short who was wide open on the right side. Short collected the ball and dribbled all the way down the field and lifted the shot into the upper corner of the net.
In the 18th minute senior Briana Plautz found senior Ann Lehecka right in front of the net off of a set play free kick, and Lehecka was able to finish with a beautiful header into the back of the net.
Just ten minutes into the second half Short was able to locate Reynolds in the middle of the box and the sophomore buried the ball into the left side of the net.
"Marie tucked her goal away very well," said Colwell. "Maggie Short had a nice assist on it. The two teamed up early for a goal as well."
The Muskies have the week off and will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 15 when they square off against Dominican at 1 p.m. on the Lakeland campus.
