Women's Soccer Shuts Down Marian for 3-0 Victory

The women's soccer team (6-4-1) got off to a roaring start against Northern Athletics Conference opponent Marian College on Saturday, knocking in two goals in the first ten minutes before going on to win the game, 3-0.

Senior forward Nellie Weiss got the scoring drive started on an assist from junior Laura Engel in fifth minute of play, followed by a long solo shot from sophomore forward Amy Christenson less than three minutes later.

"We came out strong from the start," said head coach Dave Madsen. "The girls are finding ways to win games.  They're scoring off good chances and doing a good job of not giving up defensively."

Although the Muskies' aggressive energy sloped off a bit in the second half, as the lead was extended to 3-0 on an Engel goal in the 36th minute, the team still managed to pound the Sabres' back line with twelve shot attempts for the game.

"We took our foot off the pedal a bit in the second half and played like we knew we had a 3-0 lead, so I was a little disappointed in that," said Madsen.

However, senior goalkeeper Alli Weiss continued to come up big at the net for the Muskies, recording five saves for another shutout.

Sophomore Savanna Johnson also had a hand in keeping the shutout, tallying one save during her time in goal for part of the second half.

With the win the Muskies remain undefeated in NAC play, improving to 3-0-1.

The team will kick off a three-game road stretch on Tuesday, Oct. 3, with Concordia, Wis. in Mequon, Wis. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
