Women's Soccer Pushes Win Streak to Four

The Lakeland College women's soccer team notched its fourth Northern Athletics Conference win in a row with a 2-0 shutout over Maranatha Baptist on Tuesday, Oct. 16, in Watertown, Wis.

Although the Muskies (7-9, 6-3 NAC) were unable to find the back of the net in the first half, resulting in a 0-0 deadlock at the end of the first 45 minutes, the squad managed to break through the wall in the second half.

Senior Elisa Waltz was the first to score, picking up a miscleared ball to tally the game-winning goal in the 66th minute. Sophomore forward Gina Weiss knocked in Lakeland's second goal 11 minutes later to give the squad a comfortable lead.

"We started out a little slow, and it took us a little while to adjust and get into the game," said head coach Dave Madsen. "But, in the second half we were able to press them back and dictate play. We were effective today, and we did what we needed to do to go in and get a win."

The Muskies will continue NAC play with undefeated Aurora University on Saturday, Oct. 20, which is also senior day.

"Aurora is going to be a tough team, and they will bring a lot of energy," Madsen said. "We need to play the way we are capable of playing. If we get the right chances, we could surprise them."

Game time with Aurora is set for 3 p.m. at Muskie Field.
