Just two days after frustrating 6-1 home loss to St. Norbert, the Lakeland women's soccer team responded strongly with a 3-1 victory over Concordia Chicago in the team's Northern Athletics Conference opener in River Forest, Ill.
Freshman forward
Lindsay Rogers (Sheboygan) continued her stellar rookie season, netting all three Muskie scores. Rogers scored in the ninth minute to give the Muskies (1-0 NAC, 3-3 overall) a 1-0 lead.
After the Cougars tied the game in the 29th minute, Rogers scored the game-winner three minutes into the second half, and added one more in the 69th minute for the final margin. She now leads the team with seven goals, including three multi-goal contests.
"Lindsay had a nice goal where she chased down a defender and stole it," Lakeland head coach David Madsen said. "She is adapting quickly to the collegiate game. She is such a calm finisher and has a certain savviness in the box."
The Muskies return to the Chicago area next Saturday to play Dominican University at 3:30 p.m.
