SHEBOYGAN - Senior forward
Amy Christenson scored a hat trick as the Lakeland women's soccer team defeated Rockford College 8-0 in a Northern Athletics Conference match at Lakeland.
After taking a 3-0 lead into halftime, the Muskies (2-1 NAC, 5-4 overall) tallied two goals just under 15 minutes into the second half to take control of the game.
At the half, Lakeland head coach David Madsen introduced Muskie parents as the players presented each family member with blue and gold flowers as a thank you for their efforts.
Christenson, a Dodgeville native, found the back of the net once in the first half and twice in the second. Freshman forward
Lindsay Rogers (Sheboygan) posted her team-leading eighth goal of the season in the 8th minute of the first half.
Junior forward
Gina Weiss (Salem), freshman midfielder
Brittney Smit (St. Cloud) and freshman midfielder
Dana Schmidt (Menasha) also scored for the Muskies.
"A couple of the goals that we scored, I know Amy and Gina kind of had carbon copies, but the receiver turned into the provider for the second one," Madsen said. "It was nice, because it showed that our girls were working off the ball well to create their goals."
Junior goalkeeper
Leslie Oskey (Howards Grove) and sophomore goalkeeper
Whitney England (Ashwaubenon) combined for the shut-out.
"Scoring early was nice, getting the shut-out, getting the goals we needed to and limiting their shots and their chances going forward, to me it showed that we had a better focus coming from the game against Ripon on Tuesday," Madsen said.
The Regents move to 0-4 in the NAC and 1-6 overall.
Lakeland returns to action this Wednesday at Edgewood College in Madison. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
