The Lakeland College women's soccer team was unable to respond to a pair of second half goals, falling to Edgewood 2-0 Tuesday afternoon in a Northern Athletics Conference match on the Lakeland College campus.
Neither team had great offensive chances in the first half as defense prevailed on a blustery afternoon. Kelsey Beck put Edgewood on the scoreboard with a goal off of a pass from Katherine Hunt.
The Muskies nearly found an equalizer when
Jaime Wichman (Franklin) and
Kristina Borts (Milwaukee) nearly found the back of the net in the 77th and 80th minutes, respectively. Wichman shot a ball that deflected off the fingertips of Eagle's keeper Ilana Bar-av while Borts took an attempt that hit Bar-av square in the chest.
Tammi Hagensick put in an insurance goal in the 87th minute for the 2-0 victory.
The Eagles have now shut out opponents in four of their last five games.
Lakeland returns to home action this Saturday, October 10, at 1 p.m. against Wisconsin Lutheran
