Lakeland women's soccer group back home to host MSOE

The Lakeland College women's soccer team will play its second-to-last home match of the season when it welcomes Milwaukee School of Engineering Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. on the campus field.

The Muskies come in with a 4-13 overall mark and are 1-6 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference. Lakeland was most recently defeated by Edgewood 8-0 on Saturday in Madison. The Eagles exploded for seven goals in the first half including four goals in a span of 3:21 early on, while Lakeland played better in the second half, but was unable to get on the board.

MSOE (9-6 overall) is coming off an exciting 2-1 double-overtime win on Saturday. Travia scored the winning goal 3:55 into the second overtime period as MSOE capped a big week by improving to 5-2 in the NACC. Gaynor also scored for the Raiders in the first half, and that lead held up until the Eagles scored the equalizer with just 51 seconds left in regulation.

Wednesday marks the 27th meeting all-time between Lakeland and MSOE, and the two schools have evenly split their first 26 meetings, with 13 wins each. Despite the even ledger, the series has been dominated by exactly three winning streaks. The Raiders won the first six meetings, including the first meeting ever Oct. 28, 1995, but the Muskies then won 13 straight, including their last win over MSOE by a 2-1 score Oct. 10, 2007 when Elisa Waltz and Jacqui Drexler scored goals. The Raiders have won the last seven meetings, including a 10-0 shutout last year in Milwaukee. Sara Travia scored three goals in that match and Natalie Gayner and Caitlin Liddiard added two goals each.
