Lakeland women's soccer back home, hosts potent Maranatha Baptist Thursday

The Lakeland College women's soccer team will step out of conference once again Thursday with a tricky test at home against Maranatha Baptist University at 4 p.m.

The Muskies (4-8 overall) defeated Rockford 2-1 on Sunday to notch their fourth win this season and surpass their win total from all of last year. Taryn Allen (Fr.-Green Bay, Wis.) scored the go-ahead goal in the 67th minute and Karen Hjelle (Jr.-Malone, Wis.) also scored a goal in the first half as Lakeland improved to 11-0 all-time against the Regents. Melissa Noll (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis.) made two saves in goal to get the win.

The Sabercats (4-2-1 overall) faced Wisconsin Lutheran in their most recent match on Saturday and defeated the Warriors 4-0. Anna Dahl and Bethany Wright both scored goals in the first half and Courtney Dunn and Natascha Vinz added goals just 47 seconds apart in the 74th minute. MBU is in its third year of competing as an NCAA Division III and NCCAA independent. The school formerly was a member of the NACC with Lakeland and before that the Lake Michigan Conference. This year the Sabercats have played three NACC teams and have a 2-1 record, defeating Wisconsin Lutheran and Concordia Chicago (1-0 score) and losing a close one to MSOE (2-1).

This is the 23rd meeting all-time between the two schools. Lakeland leads the series 17-5, but MBU has won five of the last six meetings.
