The Lakeland College men's tennis team started off its season with a tough opponent and fell to Lawrence University 9-0 in its season opener Friday night.
The Muskies' most competitive match came at No. 2 singles, where
Greg Boknevitz (
Jr.-St. Francis, Ill.) was defeated 6-2, 6-4 by Lawrence's Sotaro Kurahashi. Lakeland's
ShoSean Fujino also won a pair of games at No. 4 singles but fell to Mitch Kasprzyk 6-1, 6-1.
The Muskies' top performance at doubles came from
Quentin Barthe (
Fr.-Tabanac, France) and
Paul Elzinga (
Sr.-Howards Grove, Wis.). The duo was defeated by Brian DeCorte and Adam Busch 8-2 at No. 2 doubles.
Lakeland will next be in action on Feb. 28 when it travels to Clinton, Iowa to face Ashford (Iowa) University and the University of Dubuque.
