Lakeland University will discontinue its varsity men's and women's tennis programs at the NCAA Division III level, Director of Athletics
Dan Artamenko has announced.
Lakeland notified the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference that it will not be competing in men's tennis in the spring 2026 season, and that effective immediately it will not offer men's or women's tennis as varsity sports.
"Over the last 6-9 months, I have completed a thorough review of the programs at Lakeland," said Artamenko. "Upon completion of this review, we have decided that the viability of tennis at Lakeland is not possible at this time."
Artamenko did note that Lakeland is receptive to continuing tennis, potentially as a club sport on campus if there was student interest. Students interested in competing in tennis at a club level should contact Student Life Coordinator LaJill Edge. For any questions about Lakeland Athletics, please contact Athletic Director
Dan Artamenko.
