MEQUON – The Lakeland College men's tennis team faced a tall task and fell to Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference title contender Concordia University Wisconsin 9-0 Sunday afternoon.
The Muskies were competitive in most matches but were unable to win a set at single or a doubles match. Lakeland dropped to 1-9 overall this season and is now 1-4 in the NACC, while Concordia improved to 5-1 in conference play and 7-9 overall.
Matt Stolz (
So.-Wauwatosa, Wis.) stepped up to No. 1 singles for the day and hung tough before being defeated 6-2, 6-3 by Trevor Budewitz.
Greg Boknevitz (
Jr.-St. Francis, Wis.) was defeated 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 singles by Benjamin Nommensen, while
Quentin Barthe (
Fr.-Tabanac, France) was blanked in the first set but challenged Ceejay Schaffner in the second set before falling 6-0, 6-4 at No. 4 singles.
Lakeland's closest match in doubles came at the No. 2 flight, where Barthe and
Paul Elzinga (
Sr.-Howards Grove, Wis.) were defeated 8-3 by Schaffner and Ryan Rogers.
The Muskies next will play their home finale on Wednesday when they host Milwaukee School of Engineering at 4 p.m. at the Sports Core in Kohler.
