The Lakeland College men's tennis team dropped a pair of dual matches on the weekend, falling to Lawrence University and Loras (Iowa) College.
Lawrence defeated the Muskies 9-0 Friday night in Appleton, while Loras also topped Lakeland by the same score on Saturday at Sports Core in Kohler. The Muskies are now 0-4 this season.
Lakeland was more competitive against Loras, with freshman
Jared Nummerdor (
Waupun, Wis.) nearly scoring the team's first individual win of the season. Nummerdor won the first set of his match against Nick Barron at No. 4 singles before Baron bounced back for a 2-6, 6-2, 10-4 win.
Carlos Rodriguez (
Sr.-Chicago, Ill.) also won three games in his match at No. 3 singles but lost to Neil Kane 6-2, 6-1.
Greg Boknevitz (
Sr.-St. Francis, Wis.) also was defeated by Ulises Hernandez 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles.
Boknevitz and
ShoSean Fujino (
Sr.-Tokyo, Japan) had the team's best result in doubles against Loras, falling by a score of 8-1. As they have in all four matches this season, the Muskies competed with just five players and therefore had to forfeit matches at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles.
Lakeland struggled on Friday against a strong Lawrence team, able to win games in just two matches. Boknevitz was defeated by David James 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, while Rodriguez and Nummerdor lost by an 8-1 count to Ethan Perushek and Ben Tomhave at No. 2 doubles.
The Muskies return to action April 9 when they open Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play by hosting Concordia University Chicago at 10 a.m. and Dominican (Ill.) University at 2 p.m. Both duals will be played at Sports Core.
