FORT MYERS, Fla. –
Jared Rear (
Sr.-Belleville, Wis.) and
Jody Harrison (
So.-Pontiac, Mich.) drove in runs and
Travis Regalado (
Fr.-Willcox, Ariz.) got his first collegiate win as the Lakeland College baseball team defeated Wilmington (Ohio) College 3-2 in the first game of their doubleheader Monday at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic.
The Muskies picked up their first win of the season before the Fightin' Quakers rallied for an 8-6 win in the second game of the twinbill. Lakeland is now 1-4 overall and through three days of its spring break trip.
The Muskies used quality pitching and one big inning in winning the opener. Three Lakeland pitchers combined to allow five hits, and at the plate the team got all the runs it needed with a three-run fourth inning.
Rear delivered the big blow with a bases-loaded, two-run double to give the Muskies a 2-1 lead. Harrison followed immediately after with a sacrifice fly to score
Brooks Repking (
Fr.-Hamburg, Wis.).
That was enough for the pitching trio of
Jordan Johnson (
Fr.-Riverton, Utah), Regalado and
Luke Kelly (
Sr.-Marinette, Wis.). Johnson started and in 3 1/3 innings allowed one hit and one unearned run with two strikeouts before Regalado came on and pitched 2 2/3 innings, allowing two hits and one run. Kelly then came on in the seventh and allowed two hits and held Wilmington scoreless to pick up the save.
Rear continued his big day at the plate in the second game with two more hits and a three-run home run. His blast came as part of a five-run fifth inning that also included a two-run single by Regalado as Lakeland fought back from a 5-1 deficit to take the lead.
The Quakers came back with a single run in the bottom of the fifth on a sac fly and then took the lead with two runs in the sixth. Both scores came after two were out, and Wilmington capitalized on an error and a wild pitch in the inning.
Travis Stever (
Jr.-Brillion, Wis.) took the loss in relief, allowing four hits and four runs (three earned) while striking out three.
James Antley (
Fr.-Luling, La.) got the start on the mound and allowed nine hits and four runs in 2 1/3/ innings.
Lakeland gets the day off Tuesday before returning to play Wednesday with a doubleheader, opening against Olivet (Mich.) College at 8 a.m. Eastern time and following with a game against the U.S. Coast Guard Academy at 11 a.m.
