Muskies get first individual wins but fall to Ripon 7-2 in tennis dual

RIPON, Wis. – The Lakeland College men's tennis team had a breakthrough of sorts even in a 7-2 loss to Ripon College in a non-conference dual Tuesday afternoon.

Though the Muskies lost for the seventh time in as many dual matches, the team earned its first wins of the season. Lakeland recorded single wins in both singles and doubles while also competing well in other matches.

Dakota Hunter (Fr.-Waukesha, Wis.) made his debut for the team after competing on the men's volleyball team, and he came through with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Ben Ermatinger at Number 5 singles. Hunter also teamed with Jared Nummerdor (Fr.-Waupun, Wis.) at No. 2 doubles for an 8-3 win over Ripon's Jacob Kramer and Zach Muench.

Nummerdor nearly made it a third win for Lakeland, winning the second set against Kramer at No. 4 singles. The two played neck and neck much of the third set before Kramer finally prevailed 6-4, 2-6, 10-8.

Greg Boknevitz (Sr.-St. Francis, Wis.) was competitive at No. 1 singles, falling to Lincoln Wurtz 6-1, 6-3. ShoSean Fujino (Sr.-Tokyo, Japan) also lost a 6-1, 6-0 decision to J.J. Grinde at No. 2 singles.

Boknevitz and Fujino were defeated by Grinde and Wurtz 8-3 at No. 1 doubles. Carlos Rodriguez (Sr.-Chicago, Ill.) and Dylan Skewis (Jr.-Ishpeming, Mich.) also were defeated by Ermatinger and Steven Lanphier 8-2 at No. 3 doubles.

The Muskies are back in action Saturday when they travel to face Aurora (Ill.) University at 10 a.m. in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match.
