KOHLER – The Lakeland College men's tennis team was defeated by Edgewood College and Marian University in a pair of Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference duals held Saturday at the Sports Core.
The Muskies fell by a 9-0 score to NACC-leading Edgewood in the first match and then dropped an 8-1 decision to the Sabres in the afternoon. Lakeland was competing with just four players for the day, resulting in the defaulting of three of the nine matches against both opponents.
Dakota Hunter (
Fr.-Waukesha, Wis.) registered the lone win of the day, rallying for a 3-6, 6-2, 10-6 win over Marian's Danny Roe at No. 3 singles. Hunter also had the team's best showing against Edgewood with a 6-3, 6-4 loss to Jaime Benavides.
Hunter teamed with
Dylan Skewis (
Jr.-Ishpeming, Mich.) to play at No. 2 doubles for the day, losing by 8-3 scores to Andrew Martinez and Alex Hadjiev of Edgewood as well as Patrick Schwoerer and Spencer Braswell of Marian.
Greg Boknevitz (
Sr.-St. Francis, Wis.) played a close first set against Marian's Joey Dittman before falling at No. 1 singles 7-5, 6-1. Boknevitz and
Jared Nummerdor (
Fr.-Waupun, Wis.) also teamed up at No. 1 doubles and lost to Marian's Dittman and Roe 8-2.
Lakeland concludes its season with two more matches this week, traveling to face Wisconsin Lutheran College on Wednesday at 4 p.m. and then hosting Concordia University Wisconsin on Saturday at 10 a.m. for its finale.
