NEW BERLIN –
Dylan Skewis (
Jr.-Ishpeming, Mich.) earned his first collegiate win in singles play in the Lakeland College men's tennis team's 7-2 loss to Wisconsin Lutheran College Wednesday night.
Skewis defeated Tristen Seymour 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6 singles, one of two wins for the Muskies in their Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference dual match. The junior had played eight of his previous 10 matches this season at No. 4 or 5 singles, but played at No. 6 on Wednesday as Lakeland fielded a full six-player squad for just the fourth time this season.
Dakota Hunter (
Fr.-Waukesha, Wis.) also picked up a win, blanking John Lewinski 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles. Hunter improved to 4-2 in singles play since joining the team after the men's volleyball season, and also is now 3-0 at the No. 5 flight.
Lakeland's best results elsewhere were in doubles matches.
Greg Boknevitz (
Sr.-St. Francis, Wis.) and
Matt Stolz (
Jr.-Wauwatosa, Wis.) had a near miss at No. 1 doubles, falling by an 8-6 score to Derek Sallmann and Zach Birner. Hunter and
Jared Nummerdor (
Fr.-Waupun, Wis.) also were defeated 8-4 by Ben Wordell and Ryan Eastman at No. 2 doubles.
Boknevitz had the best showing in a loss in singles play, falling to Sallmann 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. Nummerdor also took two games in a 6-0, 6-2 loss to Eastman at No. 4 singles.
Lakeland (0-12 overall, 0-7 NACC) will wrap up its season Saturday when it hosts Concordia University Wisconsin at 10 a.m. at the Sports Core.
