Carlos Campos (
So.-Janesville, Wis.) scored 19 points to lead five players in double figures and the Lakeland University men's basketball team rolled to a 97-68 win over Dominican University Tuesday night in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.
The Muskies rode good shooting all night to score at least 90 points in a game for the sixth time this season. Lakeland bounced back from a decisive loss on Saturday, turning the tables and defeating the Stars for the second time this season.
The Muskies (12-7 overall, 9-6 NACC) set a pace that Dominican could not keep up with, shooting 56.3% in the first half in building a 53-39 halftime lead. That included a 9-for-15 performance from three-point range in the first half with Campos,
Shakur Jinad (
So.-Chicago, Ill.) and
Trenton Nickel (
Fr.-Kiel, Wis.) all hitting two three-pointers each.
Dominican (4-13 overall, 2-11 NACC) kept in contact for most of the first half, trimming double-digit deficits back to single digits on multiple occasions. Lakeland quickly broke the game open in the second half, though, scoring the first six points out of halftime and putting it away with a 19-5 run for an 87-54 lead with 7 minutes, 41 seconds left in the game.
All five starters scored in double figures for the Muskies, with
Zach Hasenstein (
Fr.-Sheboygan, Wis.) scoring 15, Jinad and
Pat McDonald (
Jr.-Port Washington, Wis.) totaling 14 each and
Joshuan McNeal (
Sr.-Chicago, Ill.) adding 13 points. Nickel also tied a season-high with eight points off the bench, while
Eric Nygaard (
Jr.-Plymouth, Wis.) paced the team with nine rebounds.
Lakeland finished shooting 50% from the field and three-point range, making 33 of 66 shots overall including 14 of 28 from long distance. The Muskies also hit 17 of 20 from the foul line (85.0%).
Tim Robertson scored 16 to lead Dominican, which shot 38.3% (23 of 60). The Stars also committed 19 turnovers.
Lakeland has a break this weekend and will next play on Wednesday, Jan. 31, when it travels to take on Wisconsin Lutheran College at 7 p.m. in Milwaukee.
