MEQUON – The Lakeland University men's wrestling team won three of five contested matches in a 24-16 dual match loss to Concordia University Wisconsin Thursday night at the R. John Buuck Fieldhouse.
Gonzalo Alvarado (
Fr.-Downers Grove, Ill.) earned his first collegiate win and
Chris Deja (
Fr.-Adams, Wis.) and
P.J. Ladd (
So.-Chilton, Wis.) both added victories to lead the Muskies in their first dual of the season.
Deja opened the dual with a high-scoring 16-13 decision over Trey Wilson at 197 pounds. Alvarado then took a 4-0 decision over Connor Nolan at 149 lbs., and Ladd followed with a 9-1 major decision over Alex Montbriand at 165 lbs.
Lakeland's two contested losses were both close.
Harry Tompkins (
Fr.-Severna Park, Md.) dropped a close 2-0 decision to Reid McNeill at 285 lbs., and
Kyle Reitmeier (
Fr.-Armstrong, Ill.) was defeated by Cameron Caldwell by a 14-8 score at 174 lbs.
Both the Muskies and Falcons wrestled shorthanded, with the teams combining for four forfeit wins, including three by Concordia. The teams also both forfeited at 133 lbs.
Lakeland returns to the mats on Saturday when it travels to the North Central College Invitational in Naperville, Ill.
