Daehling makes 19 saves but Muskies fall to Concordia Chicago 2-0

Box Score RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Concordia University Chicago scored separate goals in the first and second halves in defeating the Lakeland University women's soccer team 2-0 Saturday afternoon in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match.

Megan Vasseur scored the opener in the 17th minute and Sydney Fuller added a second goal late in the second half as Concordia picked up its first win of the season in eight tries and evened its NACC record at 1-1. Lakeland dropped below the .500 mark for the first time this season and is now 4-5-1 overall and 0-2 in conference.

The Muskies were in retreat mode much of the afternoon, as they finished on the wrong end of a 35-0 margin in shots for the Cougars. Goalkeeper Grace Daehling (So.-Sun Prairie, Wis.) made a career-high 19 saves in a valiant performance in goal, keeping Lakeland within striking distance all the way.

Concordia got on the board 16:58 into the match when Vasseur cleaned up a rebound after Daehling made a save of a shot by Emma Stone, putting it in for a 1-0 lead. The score stayed that way until the 82nd minute, when Fuller headed in a corner kick by Gabriella Wagoner for an insurance goal and her first goal of the season.

The Cougars finished with a 22-0 shot advantage in the first half and added 13 more shots in the second half. Daehling made 11 saves in the first period and eight in the second.

The Muskies are home for their next match when they welcome Marian University for a 7 p.m. kickoff Wednesday night at Taylor Field.
