GREEN BAY, Wis. – Jacob Larson (So.-Wauwatosa, Wis.) posted a hard-earned win at No. 2 singles to pick up a win for the Lakeland University men's tennis team as it opened its season with an 8-1 loss to St. Norbert College.

Larson defeated Andrew Gehring 7-6, 7-6 to post the lone win for the Muskies. Larson led Lakeland in singles wins with eight last year as a freshman, and he moved up two flights from the No. 4 level where he competed most of last year.

St. Norbert (2-0 overall) won the remaining five singles matches in straight sets and surrendered just two games in sweeping doubles play. The Muskies' best singles performance in defeat came from Kengo Kanemitsu (Sr.-Shinjuku, Japan), who fell to Porter Beilfuss 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4 singles. Nick Lange (Sr.-Mukwonago, Wis.) also won two games in a 6-1, 6-1 loss to Johnny Zanotti at No. 1 singles.

Lakeland opens its home schedule with its next match Friday, Feb. 28 when it hosts Calvin (Mich.) College at 2 p.m. at Sports Core in Kohler.
