Larson wins again at singles but Lakeland falls to Ripon in dual

KOHLER – Jacob Larson (So.-Wauwatosa, Wis.) picked up his second singles victory of the season but the Lakeland University men's tennis team was defeated by Ripon College 8-1 Saturday evening at Sports Core.

Larson picked up a hard-earned win at No. 3 singles in improving to 2-1 on the season. Larson outlasted Adrian Granados 6-3, 5-7, 10-8 in the lone three-set match of the dual.

Larson claimed the only set wins for Lakeland (0-3 overall), though Aaron Smith (So.-Lake Geneva, Wis.) nearly took the second set in a 6-1, 7-5 loss to Luke Austin at No. 4 singles. Eric Bredlow (Fr.-Whitewater, Wis.) also nearly won the first set in a 6-4, 6-1 loss to Daniel Garcia at No. 6 singles.

The Muskies also were especially competitive in doubles, nearly claiming a pair of wins. Larson and Nick Lange (Sr.-Mukwonago, Wis.) challenged Granados and Junmo Kwon before falling 8-5 at No. 1 singles. Smith and Kengo Kanemitsu (Sr.-Shinjuku, Japan) also lost to Garcia and Preston Wurtz by the same 8-5 score at No. 2 doubles.

Lakeland is home again next time out when it hosts Lawrence University for a dual next Saturday at 2 p.m. at Sports Core.
