RIPON, Wis. – The Lakeland University men's and women's track & field teams set four more school indoor records at the Dick Hendricks Invite hosted by Ripon College Saturday.
Noah Lutzke (
So.-Orfordville, Wis.) set a distance running record for the third straight meet and
Travis Eitel (
So.-Pine Island, Minn.) bettered his school record in the 60-meter hurdles. The Muskies posted a pair of relay records in a solid day where the men's team scored 21 points and the women's team totaled 16 points.
Lutzke set a new school mark in the men's 3,000, chopping more than 15 seconds off of the previous record held by Kassahun Lehman and finishing third in 9 minutes, 22.07 seconds. He also was part of the 1,600 sprint medley relay along with Eitel,
Sam Scharenbroch (
So.-Sheboygan, Wis.) and
Jaylen Rido (
Sr.-Houston, Texas) that set a new school best of 3:52.70.
Eitel also lowered his top school mark in the 60 hurdles, taking more than four tenths off with his finish in 10.18. Lakeland also saw a new record set in the women's sprint medley, with
Sahara Gardner (
So.-Kewaunee, Wis.),
Mya Fettes (
Jr.-Johnsburg, Ill.),
Kayla Bruton (
Sr.-Milwaukee, Wis.) and
Nathalie Cairo (
Sr.-Kenosha, Wis.) finishing in 4:50.34.
The Muskies also recorded eight more personal records led by Bruton, who finished second in the 400 with a time of 1:02.27, lowering her best by almost a second. Gardner also cut more than a second off her previous best by finishing 14th in the 200 with a time of 29.46, and Fettes slashed more than eight seconds off her previous top mark in the 800, also finishing 14th in 3:01.28.
Emily Pedersen (
Sr.-Menominee, Mich.) also reset her record in the mile with a time of 6:59.00 and in the weight throw
Ty'Jah Simon (
Fr.-Pflugerville, Texas) set a new PR with a throw of 8.03 meters (26 feet, 4 1/4 inches).
Rido gave the Lakeland men's team another strong finish, coming in fourth in the 200 with a PR of 23.85. Eitel set a new personal best in the 800 with a time of 2:08.88 and Scharenbroch ran his best mile in 5:23.35.
Lakeland next will compete in the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Titan Challenge next Saturday in Oshkosh, with events beginning at 10 a.m.
