DE PERE, Wis. –
Kolby Cohen (
Sr.-Missouri City, Texas) set a new school record in the men's triple jump to lead the Lakeland University men's and women's track & field teams on the first day of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Championships Friday at St. Norbert College's Schneider Stadium.
Cohen jumped 44 feet even (13.41 meters) on his way to finishing fifth in the triple jump, the best finish in an event so far in the championship for Lakeland. He broke by six inches the previous school outdoor mark of 43-6 (13.26m) set by Jawon Turner in 2015. Cohen also finished well ahead of his seed of eighth coming in after a previous best of 13.01m earlier this season.
The Muskies also earned two points from
Jake Lemke (
Jr.-West Bend, Wis.), who posted a scoring finish in the men's javelin. Lemke threw a best of 141-6 (43.12), coming home seventh of 25 competitors in the event.
The Lakeland women's team was led on the first day by
Lydia Levra (
Fr.-Elk Mound, Wis.), who qualified for Saturday's finals in the 400 meters. Levra cruised to a win in her heat with a time of 1:00.24, third best of 16 competitors in the event.
Levra also placed 11th in the 200 with a time of 27.20.
Emily Guy (
So.-Glendale Heights, Ill.) came in 10th in the 400 hurdles preliminaries with a time of 1:14.86, and
Emma Ziepke (
Jr.-Manawa, Wis.) finished 19th in the 800 with a clocking of 2:39.29, six seconds ahead of her seeded time.
The men's squad also had several personal bests, including
Eduardo Campuzano (
Jr.-Hinckley, Ill.) with a big improvement in the 800. Campuzano finished in 2:10.76 to place 18th, chopping nearly eight full seconds of his seeded time coming in.
Dunia Wangu (
Fr.-Milwaukee, Wis.) also posted a best with his time of 23.52 in placing 16th in the 200 prelims.
Preston Dos Santos (
Fr.-Random Lake, Wis.) also added a PR of 11.76 in the 100, where
Morgan Caho (
Fr.-Canton, Ill.) was just ahead of Dos Santos and the Muskies' leader with a time of 11.73.
